About Hancock State Prison
NOTE - The following information is taken directly from the Georgia State DOC website. However, it does not appear to be correct based on first-hand observations. This description fits a juvenile detention center! Hancock houses all ages.
MISSION:
Provides housing for younger adult/juvenile males primarily between
the ages of 13 and 22. Provides diagnostic, MH/MR,
academic/vocational, substance abuse programs and other basic
program services for this population.
HOUSING:
Diagnostic Dormitory houses 70; Juvenile Dormitory houses 70;
Special Management Unit houses 252 (single cells), Fire Trailer
houses 12; Single Cells; Double Cells; Eight-Man Rooms.
WORK DETAILS:
City and County contract details, farm operation, general
maintenance and water plant operations, food service and mobile
construction.

DIRECTIONS:
From Atlanta: I-20 East to Exit 138 then turn right. Left onto Highway
15 South to Sparta (25 miles). Turn left at Courthouse and follow
Highway 15 through Sparta, bear right onto Highway 15 towards
Sandersville. Take a right at the BP Station onto Buffalo Road. (There
will be a small institution sign.) Proceed about two miles and Hancock
SP is on the right.
